SAND DUNE series is considered to be one of the most important and popular works made by Shoji Ueda (1913-2000), a prominent figure in Japanese Photography. The series was created in the famous Tottori sand dunes in his hometown. Using his own family members as subjects, each scene poetically combines the subjects with the background of Tottori’s skies and sand dunes.
For the series, Benrido produced two boxes with the full support of Shoji Ueda Office. A regular version, containing six dune works including “Papa, Mama and Children (1949)” and “Sand Dune Landscape with My Wife (1950)”, and a deluxe version containing ten works and the comprehensive photo book published by Kawade Shobo Shinsha Ltd.
