Yamamoto Masao (b. 1957) was trained as an oil painter before turning to photography. With his portraits, landscapes and still lifes he tries to capture the harmonious details of life that we often miss and unexpected moments of reality that look almost unreal.
Benrido collaborated with the artist to make a limited edition portfolio which contains three colour collotype prints in a handmade box by craftspeople in Kyoto. Yamamoto’s beautiful images with delicate sensitivity seem to be his reflection on memories and the passage of time.
‘In the evening of autumn day, every moment fades away, nothing is permanent.
Yet, things like a certain “thought” remains vividly as a beautiful image.
I do not understand the law of how certain things remain while certain things disappear and I don’t want to know.’
– Yamamoto Masao, 2017
