Fan Ho moved from Shanghai to Hong Kong in 1949 and is known for his works capturing the cityscape of post-World War II Hong Kong and the daily lives of its people. His skillful use of light and shadow and his poetic expression are highly acclaimed. Many of his works evoke affection for the ordinary people of Hong Kong, and his capture of their lives and emotions has earned him the nickname “Cartier-Bresson of the East.”
